Oh Happy Day
I'm afraid to document this day lest I jinx the peace and calm I so recently experienced, but blog I will for the benefit of myself (on hard days when I wonder why Randy and I ever decided to have kids) and others who care to read my ramblings (for whatever reason.)
Elias, Bennett and I went to the Seattle Aquarium today. Blue skies, mountains all around, ferries coming and going in the warm sunshine. We parked about a block from the entrance. Elias was happily reading his NBA basketball photo book all the way there, and Bennett was sleeping peacefully. She transferred to the wrap without a hitch, and Elias held my hand sweetly as we hit the waterfront street. Right as we walked in the entrance, we happened upon some friends and spent some of the morning sharing in fishy excitement. Snacks were shared in the dome room, where Sturgeon, Salmon, Halibut and many others swam overhead. Scuba divers waved at us, and high-five-d Elias through the glass. We left with a few minutes to spare on the parking meter and got home in time to nurse Bennett, feed Elias and put them both down for a nap. During my respite, my good friend brought me bags of hand-me-downs for both kids, and an iced Mocha (bliss). The kids slept for over 2 hours, and woke cheerfully. After some more snacking, we spent the rest of the afternoon in the backyard playing with trucks and sand. The magic moment was when we all managed to climb into the hammock, Bennett dozing off to the sound of Elias and I singing our favorite songs and chattering about nothing in particular. An altogether beautiful day that made me feel alive and thankful to have the luxury of being a full-time mom.
Change is certain to come my way and there will likely be another entry entitled "Of Sh**y Day" in the near future, but for now, I go to bed content and ready to sleep.
